Re-weaving rebuilds a rug from its structure up. First we recreate the foundation — the warp threads running the length of the rug and the weft threads crossing them — across the damaged area, restoring the base grid the pile is tied to. Then we re-knot the pile onto that foundation, row by row, tying each knot the way the original weaver did and following the pattern across the repair. Finally the new pile is trimmed to match the surrounding height. Re-weaving is called for whenever pile and foundation have actually been lost, not just loosened.
